An Update From The Village!

Hey everyone,

We just wanted to post a quick update and let you all know how things are going over here at the Thank-You Village.

It's been a really busy week so far and it's hard to believe we're at Friday already. After spending last weekend getting set-up and orienting the leaders and JCs we had the kids arrive to join us after dinner on Monday. Everyone was super excited to finally meet each other after many months of preparation and planning. The last few days have been filled with lots of "get to know you" games and activities designed to make everyone more comfortable with the space and each other.

It feels like after a few days of Village life we're all settling in well and looking forward to the weeks ahead!

Food Donations and Tax Receipts

Some considerations about food donations:

1. CISV can issue a tax receipt to an individual who PURCHASES food and donates that food to the Village. They must present the purchase receipt.  
2. Unfortunately, no receipt can be issued for dishes that have been prepared by an individual donor.
3. We can, however, issue a tax receipt for food that was prepared by a restaurant and donated by that organization, because food preparation is their business.

Bring a beverage (tea, juice, pop etc) and a plate of goodies to share. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Village '11 Homestays

As most of you already know our chapter is hosting a Summer Village this year and all hands are on deck. A wonderful way for your family to give back to CISV is to volunteer to be a homestay family before, during or after the village.

The camp will take place July 3rd-31st in east Vancouver. We need families to host children and their leaders on the following dates:

· July 1 – July 3 – whole or part of delegations between arrival and beginning of camp

· July 15-17 – leaders weekend - host 2 or 3 boys or girls from different delegations

· July 31 – August 2– whole/part of delegations between end of camp and departure

Announcing the 2011 Children's International Summer Village in Vancouver

February 14, 2011 VANCOUVER, B.C.— This summer, 11-year-old delegates and their leaders from 12 countries, along with junior counsellors and staff, will gather for a four-week, multi-lingual, multi-cultural “Village” experience in Vancouver. The event, themed the “Thank You Village”, will welcome children and their adult leaders from: Australia; Brazil; Canada; Czech Republic; France; Germany; Israel; Jordan; Mexico; Norway; Sweden; and the United States as well as junior counsellors from: Italy; Finland; the United States; Turkey and Canada.

About 50 CISV Villages of this kind are hosted annually world-wide, bringing youth of different nationalities together to inspire global friendships and cross-cultural understanding. Every year, the Vancouver chapter of CISV sends 11-year-old delegates to Villages in other countries as well as to a variety of camps for older youth in the program.
